Psychiatric Services for Adults
Evaluation, medication management and supportive psychotherapy, delivered in person in Maryland and Washington DC or by secure video across MD, DC and Virginia.
Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations
The first appointment is an unhurried, structured evaluation. Nothing is prescribed and no conclusion is reached before this conversation has happened.
- Current symptoms, how long they have been present and how they affect your daily life
- Personal and family psychiatric history, and any previous treatment that helped or did not
- Physical health, current medication, sleep, alcohol and substance use
- What you want to be different, which is what the plan is then built around
Medication Management
Prescribing is a decision made with you, after an evaluation, with the benefits and the side effects described honestly. Medication is reviewed regularly rather than left to run indefinitely.
- Starting, adjusting, combining or simplifying medication
- Reducing or stopping medication safely when that is the right step
- Monitoring for side effects and for interactions with your other prescriptions
- Coordination with your primary care provider or therapist where you want that
Supportive Psychotherapy
Supportive psychotherapy sits alongside medication rather than replacing it. The focus is practical: understanding what is happening, building coping strategies and working through the situations that keep the problem going.
- Coping strategies for anxiety, low mood and stress
- Understanding patterns in relationships, work and sleep
- Support through a period of change, loss or recovery
ADHD Evaluation and Treatment
Adult ADHD is frequently missed, and it is equally often assumed where something else is going on. Assessment here is structured, and it looks at the alternatives rather than starting from the answer.
- Structured assessment covering childhood history and current functioning
- Consideration of anxiety, depression, sleep problems and substance use, which can look similar
- Treatment planned around your work, study and home demands
Where stimulant medication is appropriate it is prescribed within state and federal rules, and requires an in-depth evaluation first.
Telepsychiatry
Secure video appointments for anyone physically located in Maryland, Washington DC or Virginia at the time of the appointment. The evaluation, the prescribing and the follow-up are the same. Only the room changes.
- HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform with nothing to buy
- No travel and no waiting room, which makes follow-up far easier to keep
- Available for both first evaluations and ongoing appointments
In-Person Psychiatric Care
Some people simply prefer to be in the room, and for some appointments it is the better option. In-person care is available at each of our offices.
- Maryland Office: 8115 Fenton Street, Suite 209, Silver Spring, MD 20910
- Washington, DC Office: 6400 Georgia Avenue NW, Suite 1, Washington, DC 20012
- You can move between in-person and video appointments as suits you
Conditions we work with
Each of these is covered in more detail, including what treatment usually involves.
Getting ready for your first appointment
Bring your medication list
Everything you currently take, including anything from another prescriber, plus supplements and anything bought over the counter. Photographs of the labels are fine.
Note what you want to change
Even a rough list helps. Sleep, concentration, mood, panic, irritability, the things you have stopped doing. It shapes the whole plan.
Confirm cover before you come
The plans we are in network with are listed under Insurance We Accept. We are currently not accepting new patients in Virginia. Confirm your own benefits with your insurer before you book.
Start with an evaluation
One appointment is enough to know whether this is the right fit. Call us or send a request and we will find a time.
